Building work is due to start at a historic Arts & Crafts 3 bedroom house in the heart of Haslemere, Surrey. This historic property has remained unchanged since it was built in the 19th Century with living accommodation being split over three floors making it disjointed and out of date.  The kitchen in particular is currently located on the ground floor with no connection to the existing dining room and main garden.

Our clients’ brief was to remodel and extend the property to provide a modern 4-bedroom family home whilst maintaining the character of the property.

Our design creates a single storey rear extension set behind an existing feature garden wall. The new extension regroups all the living accommodation on the garden level with only a small Arts & Crafts inspired Crittall glazed link visible from the front elevation of the main house.

The new extension will house an open-plan kitchen/dining room overlooking the mature gardens. Our design also resolves a previously added garden entrance which will now be integrated into the existing bay window omitting the need for a dilapidated high-level walkway. The new entrance door will be wood panelled, inspired by the existing Arts & Crafts woodwork featured in the house.
